A Voice for Shops and Businesses
Facing Challenges Together: Building a Thriving High Street in New Malden
High streets across the UK are navigating unprecedented challenges. In New Malden, the closure of long-standing businesses like Tudor Williams, Wilko and five banks has highlighted the pressures facing our town. While new food and drink establishments have brought fresh energy to the area, the future remains uncertain.
With the rise of online shopping, changing consumer habits, and competition from neighboring hubs like Kingston and Wimbledon, it’s more important than ever to work together to support our High Street.
A Voice for High Street Businesses - the Role of a New Malden High Street Group
Coming together and collaborating as a business community can amplify efforts and bring about meaningful change. By forming a New Malden High Street Group, businesses can create a unified voice to tackle key issues, develop initiatives like loyalty discount schemes, promote events, lobby the council, work together on parking, recycling and waste issues and enhance the local environment with projects like the existing hanging flower baskets.
The group would decide how it would work including as:
-
as part of the New Malden Town Centre Partnership to focus on High Street improvements; and
-
linking up with the New Malden Business Forum to share ideas and resources.
Aims of the Group
-
Identify and address key challenges impacting local trade;
-
Develop practical strategies to boost business and attract footfall;
-
Elect a steering group to lead, consult, and implement plans; and
-
Communicate regularly to ensure transparency and progress.

Together, a vibrant, resilient high street that serves businesses and the community alike can be maintained for the future benefit of all.
Details on how to get involved will be shared at an upcoming launch meeting –we hope to
see you there!
Let’s work together to secure a bright future for New Malden’s High Street.
